May Preparations for summer

Before summer begins, we like to get all the little jobs out of the way, besides our normal work. One of our on going jobs is to stay prepared for A.L.I.C.E. This door needed to be moved for safety concerns. The storage room door to the hallway was just a metal mesh covering with a wood panel to cover the doorway. We felt the doorway was unsafe so we moved a door to the area so the entrance can be secure and the door locked. This would be a normal routine. The library had some bookshelves moved around to access an old showcase. Also, maintenance had to be called to repair the bleachers for a night concert.

May Cleaning

A few cleaning duties we do to prepare for summer is to scrape the baseboards. We had stripped and waxed the Cafeteria during spring break and ran out of time to clean up the baseboard afterwards. The photo of the green tile shows the scraping that needed to be done. Before  summer, we also wash the window shades. We also wash the walls and dust the light shades. These are all small jobs that will save my crew and myself time so that we can catch up on other projects we are behind on. May is a very busy month.

First Day of summer

On the first day of summer, we get to work on cleaning the furniture. We wash down the furniture with a heavy cleaner and scrape the gum off of the student desks. Also on the first day of summer, we move the computers away from the wall to scrub and wax the floor. This needs to be done first before the rest of the room is scrubbed and waxed. If we do not do this, wax will build up around the bottom of the legs over time and become unsightly. We have to finish cleaning out all student lockers.Even though the students have locker clean out time, they still leave behind a mess. The last thing we did for the day was to strip down Mr. Cramer's new room.

After room 203 was stripped and waxed, we installed a new smart board that had come from Washington. Of course with a new installation of a smart board, we had to reposition the projector to line up with the smart board.

For room 204, we had to install a smart board from another room. We had to move the projector to match the smart board but before we did that we had painted the teaching wall a new color.

Before the gymnasium was refinished, all the lines were repainted to match the new school colors. New black protective pads will be installed to replace the green pads.
