This website is show what Willoughby-Eastlake's custodial and maintenance crews do for the summer months and beyond. Most of the focus will be centered around Eastlake Middle school.
Stages of waxed second floor after stripping
This is the second floor of Eastlake Middle's sixth grade hallway after we had stripped the floor. Stripping the floor had taken 3 days to complete because of the amount of wax that needed to be removed. We had applied 1 coat of terrazzo sealer and 5 coats of wax afterwards.
In the Art room, we had decided to strip the floor to see if we can start refinishing classroom floors. One thing about stripping classroom floors is the difficulty of the old tile glue separating from the floor and the tile. We had successfully stripped and waxed the Art room with no problems, paving the way for continued stripping of the classrooms. We had successfully stripped the Main Office, which is not included in the photos. The Art room and the Main office were the worst, with regards to refinishing the floors. The main problem in these areas included tiles lifting and separating from the floor from years of wear and tear.
Replacement of roof on east end of building
In the summer months, the district had decided to replace the roof over the Lobby, the Main Office and all the way down to the Music room. This had taken 3 months to complete. As you can see, the roofers had to replace a total of 75 pieces of decking. This caused added delays for summer work because of the dust and debris that had fallen through into the building. Not pictured was a leak that had happened while the roofers were halfway through the process.
